Cloth Parent Q&A - Taneale McFarlane

Marisa Hendricks

Welcome to a new series on the blog! We will be featuring "regular" (for lack of better word!) cloth moms and dads to share their cloth journeys with us and tell us a little bit about themselves.

For our first post we got the lovely Taneale McFarlane and her 20 month old cloth bum to answer a few questions. Just look at those bright, happy smiles!

Q: How long have you been using cloth nappies?

A: 1.5 years

Q: How/where/when did you first hear about cloth nappies?

A: At the Healthy Mom and Baby Clinic in Jeffreys Bay, while still pregnant with our first baby

Q: Why did you decide to use cloth nappies?

A: I loved the idea of natural fibres instead of plastic, the fact that they are reusable/washable and are available in so many amazing prints!

Q: What was the most surprising thing about using cloth nappies?

A: How easy they are to use. Like anything new, once you get the hang of it, it becomes enjoyable!

Q: What is the most challenging thing about cloth nappies for you? And how did/do you overcome it?

A: Understanding absorbency, how and what to use to boost - I got so frustrated with leaks!

I did a lot of reading, asking questions on the Facebook group and slowly learnt what worked for us.

Q: Your advice to anyone just starting out or considering cloth nappies:

A: Do your homework first before just spending the money; chat to as many people as you can to get an understanding before you start.

And once you take the plunge, you will not regret it!
